A Galaxie Far Far Away? Modding the Boss BD-2

A few months ago I posted my first build of the Aion Sapphire clone of the Boss BD-2 Blues Driver overdrive pedal. At the time I mentioned that the board supported the Galaxie modification by Machine Head Pedals, and I planned to complete a second build of that version. It took a bit longer than expected (as I was working on other projects), but here it is, and from what I can tell so far, it is amazing!

Way Huge Aqua Puss Mk I AP2 Clone

Out of production pedals have started to reach fairly dizzying heights in terms of price. The Klon Centaur is well-known for high prices, but when you think of expensive pedals, something like the Way Huge Aqua Puss may not come immediately to mind. After all, you can buy a current production Aqua Puss for about $150 brand new. However, the one that is available today is the Mark III, and it sounds different than its earlier incarnations. One of the most prized versions of the pedal is the Mark I AP2 that uses the MN3005 BBD chip, and you can currently get an original on Reverb for $4250. Fortunately the Tone Geek has a PCB clone of the original for a far more reasonable price - as long as you can find all of the parts!

First Pedal Started - Just Now Finished - the Ceriatone Centura

Despite the number of clones on the market, the original Klon Centaur remains an extremely expensive pedal to buy with originals approaching, or exceeding, the $9000 mark. The "affordable" Klon variant from Bill Finnegan seems to run anywhere from $700-$800 (used) and over $1500 (new). As I mentioned in my Tone Geek BFK build entry last September, the very first pedal I tried to build was a Klon Centaur Clone - the Ceriatone Centura. I'd picked up the kit intending to use it to help my son get his electronics merit badge in Scouts. To say that the build was not "entirely successful" would be a bit of an understatement. I'd tried to populate a second board, but received similar poor results. My debugging skills at the time were poor, so I decided to have one last crack at it...

Birds of a Feather - Updating the EQD Plumes Clone!

When I built my first clone of the EQD Plumes pedal, I indicated that there was one difference between my version and the original. My first build used a simple 3PDT switch which meant it was either on or off, unlike the original pedal which could be used as an instantaneous boost or distortion if one kept their foot on the pedal switch. I figured it would be possible to add this functionality to the pedal, so I went in search of the right daughter board. Fortunately PedalPCB has an specific bypass module, the Intelligent Relay Bypass, that will in combination with a momentary switch make the pedal work just like the original!

Stuff Happens - Vacation Partially Postponed...

Unfortunately due to illness the vacation part of vacation has been canceled. Steggo will still be on a business trip later this month. So get those orders in before the 22nd!
